A Kiran Desai comeback, well-worth the twenty-year wait.
We’ve loved Kiran Desai’s writing since 'The Inheritance of Loss', so this one had a lot to live up to. And it didn’t disappoint. 'The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny' is sprawling in the best way, moving between India and America, across generations and family lines, with characters whose lives knot together around love, ambition, and the pull of tradition versus change. It’s the kind of novel you can lose yourself in for weeks.
