The artwork on this Maachis matchbox is inspired by the iconic 20th-century safety match labels—most notably from India—that featured a jovial jester graphic and a printed joke on the back of the box. We think these would make a great birthday gift for a friend, and are perfectly sized to store small keepsakes, mints—or, ahem, pre-rolled essentials for life's next fast-paced adventure!
Made of ivory-finished wood, each matchbox comes with safety matches, a striking surface and dual magnetic closures on both sides. Founded by Sonal Nagwani and Kevin Thomas, Maachis is an art revival project that is reimagining matchboxes as a modern medium of storytelling. They celebrate the intersection of design and culture and aim to give new life to India's forgotten matchbox art in the form of bold, handcrafted pieces.
