One of those books that needs to be on everyone's reading list and bookshelf.
Maus was our gateway into graphic novels. We bought it with our first salary, and it still sits on our bookshelf—worn, re-read, and lent out too many times to count. On the surface, it’s a Holocaust memoir told through mice and cats. But it’s also about family, survival, and what it means to carry someone else’s story. Spiegelman doesn’t hold back, but he also doesn’t dramatise. The drawings are stark, the storytelling clear, and the emotions hit hard. It’s a reminder that comics aren’t just for escape; they can also be a way in.
Perfect For:
Gifting to teens 'cos it helps build empathy and understand the human impact of the historical atrocity that was the Holocaust.
